About Lee’s Custom Tailoring in Indianapolis
Indianapolis resident and Master Tailor Jin Lee is in an elite group of 25 master tailors in the United States and fewer than 300 worldwide. Lee began his training as an apprentice in 1967, at 13 years of age in his native South Korea, where he would become a 2nd generation tailor. In 1980 Lee presented his workmanship to the Ministry of Labor of the Republic of Korea and was honored and designated Master Tailor. Three years later Lee became the first certified Master-Tailor Instructor, one of only a few individuals in Korea allowed to train his own master tailors. Then in 1985, Lee and his family emigrated to the United States to pursue the American dream and to practice his art. Lee now makes suits, sport coats, overcoats and shirts for business executives, athletes, professionals, TV commentators and hard-to-fit men and women in the greater Indianapolis area.
Like a true bespoke suit maker, Lee creates his own patterns from scratch for each and every individual customer. Lee spends between 25 to 40 hours to measure, cut, and design every pattern and suit he creates. Lee takes photos of each client from different angles to remind himself how to approach each individual’s perfect fit.
Lee has the distinction of having won multiple fashion Award of Merits and other awards from the Custom Tailors and Designers Association (CTDA). Futhermore, Lee has presented at the World Congress of Master Tailors and is now enjoying the pleasure of training his son who will become a 3rd-generation tailor.
